We call the house Mocama in honor of the first inhabitants of the island, the coastal-dwelling members of the Timucua tribe. Mocama means the water, the place where the sun and moon are born. The mid-century house, built in 1955, was one of the first houses built after the state of Georgia acquired the island. It was designed by Laurence Miller, who designed the towers on the causeway and The King and Prince Hotel on SSI.This single-level brick beach cottage is adorned with live oaks and azaleas throughout the property. Visitors can enjoy relaxing in the beach-style seating located on the front porch and back patio. There is also a hammock located in the backyard in the shade of the oaks.
