Located in Bracey, Virginia, United States. 1865 farmhouse near Lake Gaston! THE FARMHOUSE IS NOT ON LAKE GASTON, BUT IT'S ONLY A MILE AWAY.The Isle of Rest was once a 4,000 acre working farm originally built around 1810. The main house burned down after being struck by lightening and the current home was completed in 1865. The property was divided into two parcels by the family in the mid 1920's. Most of the land was sold to developers in the 1950's when Lake Gaston was formed by damming the Roanoke River. The homestead was lived in until 1973 when the matriarch of the family passed away. Her heirs allowed the land to sit for thirty years and fall into disrepair. I purchased the homestead and 25 acres in 2005 and set off to restore the grand old house. My family and I use it as a weekend getaway throughout the year and stay for a week several times during the summer.
