The following year, Abner Sprague surveyed the new village of Estes Park and included a park for the town's municipal buildings. In 1944, it was named Bond Park and today survives as the center of activity for the Town of Estes Park.Bond entered real estate business to sell lots in Estes Park. He knew that the success of the town as a tourist attraction would be tied to its wildlife. He paid half the expense of stocking the Big Thompson River with trout.During the late 1800s, elk had been hunted to extinction by hunters that supplied Denver restaurants with elk meat.
